Anyone for tennis?

Wimbledon fortnight is well under way and people up and down the country have been glued to their TV screens watching events unfold in SW19.  And thanks to a brand new initiative at the Liberty Centre in Romfrd, you can now try your luck at table tennis!  Last week the Liberty Shopping Centre announced the opening of a free, new Table Tennis Lounge in the centre.

The table tennis space includes 3 tables, which are free for everyone to use, and promises to be an exciting interactive area for shoppers and centre staff to take time out and enjoy some physical activity.

Anyone can grab table tennis bats and a ball from the centre’s Customer Service Desk and enjoy a game or two in the Table Tennis Lounge located in the old Sports Direct unit.

Centre Manager, Jonathan Poole said: “We’re introducing the Table Tennis Lounge as a fun activity that will benefit shoppers and staff alike.”

“It’s fantastic that we can utilise this space to help our shoppers and staff get active. Whether it’s taking a break from shopping or grabbing a bat in a lunch break, the lounge is a great space to help people relax and have some fun

“We hope everyone enjoys a spot of shopPING PONG this summer!”

In continuation of The Liberty’s partnership with the Sycamore Trust, the shopping centre will host special autism-friendly table tennis hours on Monday and Tuesday mornings throughout the summer for locals with learning disabilities and autism.

Sycamore Trust is a charity located in The Liberty that supports parents, carers and individuals affected by Autistic Spectrum Disorders and learning difficulties. The Table Tennis Lounge hours is the latest autism-friendly addition to the centre, which has a disability friendly ‘Calm Lane’ to encourage all shoppers to enjoy a relaxing shopping experience and directs them to the Sycamore Trust  autism hub in the centre.

Playing table tennis has a number of health benefits, including the development of reflexes and hand-eye coordination. It is also a social sport that helps encourage team building and friendly competition. The centre hopes these benefits will aid Sycamore Trust families to enjoy safe, social and fun activity in the town centre.

Any of our members or anyone who attends our youth clubs is invited to attend.  E-mail Sue at  activities@sycamoretrust.org.uk for more information
