Autism advice workshop set for June

A legal advice workshop, focussing on SEN issues will take place at the Sycamore Trust premises in June.

We will be providing a workshop in Dagenham, followed by a Q & A session delivered by a SEN specialist solicitor. The workshop will be an accessible introduction to the subject of special educational needs, the aim being to provide attendees with an understanding of the legal framework, starting with how to recognise whether a child or young person has special educational needs and what needs to be done should there be evidence that they may need an Educational Health and Care plan (EHCP). The educational aspects of an EHCP will be looked at with the emphasis being on what should be best practice when a local authority drafts the document.

The workshop will take place on Thursday 24th June from 10am to 12pm at the Sycamore Trust premises, 27-29 Woodward Road, Dagenham, RM9 4SJ.  We will have a limited number of places and booking is essential.

The presenters will be Mandy Aulak and Sean Kennedy, co-founders of Talem Law, who specialise in employment law, Special Educational Needs and Disability law (SEND). Sean specialises in both of the firm’s practice areas and makes frequent appearances in the SEND Tribunal representing parents of children with special educational needs. Mandy is a solicitor with almost 20 years’ experience and was inspired to branch out into SEND by her autistic son.  She has often been asked to comment on SEND topics on radio and has been involved in various campaigns lobbying Parliament for changes in legislation impacting families with disabled children.

Anyone wishing to attend has the option of attending in person or dialling in to our virtual platform.  Even though the date is after the anticipated lifting of Covid restrictions, we will still be adhering to social distancing guidelines and will therefore only be able to offer a limited number of spaces.  Tickets for the event, either in person or via Zoom are free to Sycamore Trust members or £20 to non-members.

To book a place, please email familyservices@sycamoretrust.org.uk or call 020 8517 9317
