Early Christmas present

First SWAP course comes to an end

There were presents and cake all round this morning as we celebrated the end of the programme for the first group of Speak With A Picture families and children.

The twelve week programme began in September and all the children showed remarkable progress throughout the course and in every case improved their communication skills.

SWAP is designed to help families and non verbal pre-school children to communicate, using a system of symbols which can be used to indicate what the child wants.  It is based on the established Picture Exchange Communication System ® and has been funded by BBC Children In Need

The programme has proven to be very popular, with dozens of referrals for next year already.  The January intake is already complete, as is April with limited places left after that in 2019.  Lynn Chapman, Sycamore Trust operations manager said; "the fact that we are already oversubscribed for 2019 proves just how important this programme is. There's clearly a huge demand and we wish we could get to even more children."

We were delighted to receive a very generous donation from Maureen & Steven Haynes, grandparents to Ellis, one of our star students who handed over a cheque for £100 towards the project.  Thank you very much!
