Parlour Games!

Girls group takes tea with the Mayor!

There was a special evening out for the members of our Sew Crafty group for young women last week as they went to meet the Mayor of Havering. Just before Christmas, the Mayor, Cllr Dlip Patel visited the Autism Hub in Romford to meet the girls and present awards based on their achievements that year, and he so enjoyed the visit that he extended the invitation to visit him in his parlour.

On arrival, we were taken into the Mayor's office, which was a bit cosy, so he decided to show us the council chamber, where the council meetings take place.  In addition we were shown the ceremonial mace, which could only be handled with special gloves as it is so valuable.  Some of our members were invited to hold the mace and one of our young women was even invited the wear the Mayor's robes!

Following that, we were able to return to his parlour, which by then had been extended once the partition had been removed and he treated the young ladies to tea, coffee and hot chocolate before presenting them with a pin badge to commemorate their visit.
