Savoy success!

Two candidates to attend training programme

We’re always looking for jobs for the young men and women on the SPACE Project and we were delighted to learn of the Princes Trust initiative to place candidates in the hospitality industry.

After a visit from The Princes Trust, two of our young men were invited for a ‘taster day’ at the Savoy Hotel in London.  William and Mitchell signed up for the day with a view to meeting other staff from The Savoy, learning more about the hotel industry and having lunch at the hotel.

SPACE Project worker Ted Forecast accompanied William and Mitchell to The Savoy where they were met by a Princes Trust representative and taken to a meeting hall above Simpsons restaurant.

The two youngsters were then given a presentation by The Princes Trust and then another by a Savoy Manager, followed by a tour of the hotel, including a visit to all the restaurants and bars.  The highlight was undoubtedly a look round the most expensive suite in the hotel which costs £18,000 a night! It was a very informative tour which was enjoyed by around 30 young people on the taster day.

All the candidates were treated to a tasty lunch which was followed by a short interview to see if they would be called back to attend the main programme which lasts for three weeks. If successful they would then be given another interview with a view to a full time position.

We are delighted to say that both William and Mitchell have been invited to join the main programme and with any luck they will both progress into full time employment. Congratulations to them both!

Only 16% of adults with ASD are in full time employment and SPACE (Supporting People with Autism into Continued Employment) is working hard to raise that figure.  Do you have a job for one of our young people? We’d love to hear from you!  Email space@sycamoretrust.org.uk or call 020 8517 9317
