Welcome Katrina Kay!

Could you be a support worker for the Sycamore Trust?

Joining the Support Work team this week is Katrina-Kay who will be supporting clients on a on-to-one basis, encouraging them into the community and aiding them to take part in fun, engaging activities.

Katrina-Kay has a wealth of experience working with young people with autism and has been regularly looking after her young autistic nephew, including overnight respite, for the past few years. She understands the challenges facing families who have a child on the spectrum and is an enthusiastic advocate for the autism community.

Katrina-Kay said, “I have been supporting Bowie age 7, for three years now. Bowie was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 and we have built a really close relationship. I help Bowie with independent life skills and help try to tackle his anxiety when out and about in public. The passion I’ve built through respiting Bowie is what has made me want to become a support worker for the Sycamore Trust.”

We are delighted to welcome Katrina-Kay to the team and look forward to matching her with a client with a view to encouraging independent living away from the reliance on family members.

Sycamore Trust Support Workers are trained by us to work with people with Autism on a one-to-one basis, enabling them to access social activities, education settings, travel on public transport or simply visit the local shops. We can assist with designing personalised programmes according to the wishes and needs of the Client and encourage individuals to become active members of their community and to participate, as desired, in events of their choice. The Support Work Service can also offer brief respite for the rest of the family. If you are interested in becoming a Support Worker for a young person, please contact supportwork@sycamore-trust.org.uk in the first instance for a referral form, or click the button at the bottom of the page.

We are also keen to hear from you if you would like to become a Support Worker. We particularly have a need for male role models to work with our young male clients and would encourage anyone with an enthusiastic and caring nature to get in touch. We offer training, competitive rates of pay and the chance to be part of a fantastic team of individuals making a difference to the lives of local families.
