This week, some of our youth group members made the most of the long overdue sunshine by joining us at community activities. On Monday 29 July, some of our girls joined us for a tour of Wellgate Community Farm followed by a game of ten pin bowling at the City Pavilion, and it was the boys’ turn on Tuesday 30 July, when a few of them joined us for a round of Moby Golf.
Wellgate Community Farm, in Marks Gate, is a registered charity and is open to the public thanks to its dedicated volunteers who care for the animals. It is small, but worth a visit if you like farm animals. The girls saw sheep, goats, pigs, ponies, ducks, geese, and chickens!
After a sunlit stroll around the farm, we made the short walk to the City Pavilion and enjoyed lunch and a game of ten pin bowling. The girls notched up impressive scores in the bowling alley and it was a fun way to round off the day.
Not to be outdone, the boys joined us for a round of adventure golf on a sweltering afternoon in Chadwell Heath that called for several water breaks. If you have not visited, Moby Golf is a fun, and quite challenging, adventure golf course based at Golf Kingdom on Whalebone Lane North.
Unsurprisingly, given the name Moby Golf, the course features a large, but friendly, model whale, as well as a pirate ship, a waterfall, and other fun features. Naturally, we took the obligatory photo opportunity in the whale’s mouth, which also provided a bit of shade before the boys took on the last nine holes. The boys did very well, with and a few holes-in-one celebrated as we went round the course.
The Jack Petchey Foundation awards scheme funded these activities, so a big thank you to them, and all the young people who joined us over the two days. We have more to come in a couple of weeks!
