Our favourite event of the year is under way!
This Monday we returned to the Lambourne End Centre for outdoor learning for our annual visit and we have picked a fabulous week. Bright sunshine welcomed us as we arrived for our first morning and we had a large and excited crowd with almost 20 young people ready to get started.
Our first activities were abseiling and the ropes course and they both presented different challenges. Abseiling in particular involved a real leap of faith, as our young people were invited to step off a ledge and abseil down the inside of the building. They were all harnessed safely, of course, but it still took a great deal of courage from some of our youngsters.
The ropes course was a different story. Some of the tasks looked easy, but in fact required a level of patience and dexterity, in order to get safely across. We’re pleased to report that none of our young people went into the water, although there were a couple of splashes on the swing!
After lunch, we came together for the bottle rockets, which is always a highlight. As ever, there was great competition to see which of our teams could get their rocket longest and highest.
Altogether, a great day and glorious sunshine. Be warned, it’s going to be hotter tomorrow!
