Our brand new STAR walking group got off to a great start yesterday. Over a dozen people took part and we were blessed with glorious weather which no doubt played a part.
We met at the Sycamore Trust premises in Dagenham and headed to Parsloes Park, walking just under three miles in almost two hours and everyone who attended enjoyed the event.
Our Sycamore Trust Autism Ramblers group is funded by Transport for London in partnership with The London Marathon Foundation. Our walking club will create support networks and friendship groups among parents and autistic adults. The walkers will be able to get out into their local community, exercise and also support each other with coping mechanisms and signpost each other to relevant local services. Walking clubs provide a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends, which can enhance social connections and combat loneliness, which is common among the autistic community.
We are blessed with some magnificent open spaces in Barking, Havering and Redbridge and our next walk will take place in one of the most picturesque parks in the region. Next Thursday, 8th May, we will return to Raphael Park in Romford for a ramble around the park and the 1911 Exhibition Estate in Gidea Park. We will start at 11am and if you'd like to take part, please drp a line to lymm.chapman@sycamoretrust.org.uk
