Get down to the Liberty!

It's the most important week of the year for us at Sycamore Trust UK.  And it's starts on Monday!  Autism Awareness Week is our chance to talk about what we do for the boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge, and to put Autism awareness and Autism acceptance in the public domain and give it greater exposure than at any other time of the year.

As we know, Autism is often overlooked and regularly misunderstood, and our plans for the week are aimed creating awareness of some of the challenges faced by people of all ages for whom Autism is part of their daily life, either as a person on the spectrum, or as a family member, friend or colleague of someone with ASD.

Our week begins in Romford, as our wonderful SWAP team set off on their walk & talk from the Autism Hub in Romford to our building in Dagenham, before returning to Romford.  You can join in, or support them here; http://www.sycamoretrust.org.uk/latest/article/Step-Up-for-Sycamore-2022%21

Attention then switches to Barking Town Centre, where we will once again be raising our flag proudly above the LBBD Town Hall for the fourth year in a row.  Once again, great exposure for Sycamore Trust and the services we provide.  Let's hope the weather is decent for the walkers and the flag raising!

From Tuesday morning, it's all eyes on the wonderful Liberty Centre in Romford, as we take over their central square with our 'Autism fun fair'.  We will be there from Tuesday 29th, right the way through to Sunday 3rd April with lots of fun activities and games, designed to demonstrate some of the sensory issues connected with Autism and once again, to highlight some of the challenges faced by people on the spectrum every day.  Most of all, we hope people will drop in to chat and have a bit of fun at the same time.

Come along and pay us a visit and if you feel lucky, you can have a go at;

  • Play your cards right
  • Various sensory games
  • Superhero bean bag game
  • Giant Connect 4

plus many more sensory activities and games.  You'll even be able to meet Batman! We will also have our collection buckets and a card reader should anyone be kind enough to make a donation throughout the week.

The highlight of the week will be Friday 1st April, as that is our annual Dare to be Different Day, when we ask people to wear something unusual and make a donation to Sycamore Trust.  As you can imagine, fund raising has been tough lately, so if anyone is able to join in, we will be extremely grateful. If you'd like to know more about Dare to be Different, click here; http://www.sycamoretrust.org.uk/get-involved/dare-to-be-different

It's building up to be a great week, and it's our opportunity to make sure that Autism is front and centre in the public consciousness and it's a chance that we aim to take with both hands.  So please join in if you can, and pop in and see us at the Liberty if you're passing!
