Jobcentre visit

Participants in the SPACE project received a boost this week with a visit from staff at the local jobcentre.  Steve Elmes and Steph Cook from Romford Jobcentre came to meet the young people on the SPACE project with a view to putting them forward for some forthcoming vacancies.

The SPACE project is aimed at helping young people with ASD into paid emplyment.  SPACE stands for Supporting People with Autism into Continued Employment and is an area that is often overlooked.  However, thanks to the help of the Glyn Hopkin Charitable Foundation CIO, we are able to help prepare our young people for work, aiding them to seek out jobs, create a CV, apply and if granted an interview, we also help with preparation, travel training and mock interview technique. Only 16% of disabled adults are in full time employment in the UK and we are working to increase that figure.

Steve and Steph were looking for candidates for a restaurant, planned to open un Romford in 2019 and we're pleased to say that four of our young people were put forward for interview.  Good luck to them all!
