New outreach service for adults with Autism

Are you over 18 years old, younger than 75 and on the Autistic Spectrum? Are you socially isolated and find making friends difficult?

If so, we may have just the service for you. We are pleased to announce an extension to our current outreach service, which, up until now, has only been available to those in Havering. We are happy to say that we can now offer an outreach service in Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge and Havering.

The project aims to reach those adults that feel socially isolated and find it difficult to meet people, especially people with an understanding of the issues surrounding their Autism. The first stage of the project will be via telephone, text, Whatsapp, or online, whatever you feel most comfortable with. From there, we aim to carry out virtual sessions with small groups, with a view to eventually meeting up within the community, for those that feel comfortable with doing so. It might just be a meet up for a coffee or even in a local park for a picnic, it will be up to the group to decide between them.

Groups will initially be supported by a staff member to help take some of the anxiety out of meeting new people. Small groups will be defined according to age so we hope that we can support everyone in making new friendships with others they can relate to.

Referrals can be taken from any professional, family member, friend or self-referrals. If you would like more information, please contact nikki.murphy@sycamoretrust.org.uk or 01708 749816.
