CPD approval for virtual training

We were delighted to receive the news this week that the Autism Ambassadors virtual Autism Awareness training has received CPD approval.

Our Autism Awareness training presentations had been suspended as a result of the government restrictions that have been put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As a result, we developed a virtual version of our training, which is delivered by the same staff and features a combination of new exercises and videos alongside some of the tasks and text from the original presentation.

We wanted to seek approval from the Continued Professional Development Standards Office, so we could suggest that our virtual training was just as highly-rated as our CPD approved face-to-face version, and we are delighted to say that we have now received our CPD accrediation for the virtual sessions.

Prior to the lockdown, the interactive 90 minute session was delivered to groups of up to 20 people in a light hearted and entertaining way, whilst all the time emphasising what organisations could do to make life easier for employees on the spectrum, and at the same time appear more welcoming to families with autistic members. The lockdown meant that we could no longer offer the face to face sessions, so our trainers began to immediately work on a virtual version, which we are now ready to roll out to the public, following approval from the CPDSO.

Commenting on the award of CPD accreditation, Sycamore's Jean Fairweather commented; "We are really pleased to announce that our live, interactive training course on Autism Awareness, has now gained CPD Accreditation . We hope by making this course available to everyone in all walks of life, understanding, empathy and knowledge of Autism will improve. This course is not the average Autism Awareness training, as it has been written and is presented by those who have a diagnosis of Autism. Anyone who attends will be able to empathise with the trainers, as this is real life - not textbook information, and you can hear and see how Autism has an impact on their everyday lives as well as gaining factual information during the course."

The virtual training includes some interactive exercises and some video clips, all of which feature young adults on the spectrum. To get an idea of what's on offer, click on this short video https://youtu.be/tv-YZigVnJ8
