Thank you, Delia

Chair of Trustees standing down

The Sycamore Trust Annual General Meeting took place at our Dagenham premises last night and it was the last official business for the outgoing Chair of Trustees, Delia Rowley.

Delia has given the charity 20 years service as a parent of a young person with Autism, a Trustee and most recently as our Chair of Trustees. Her farewell speech was the highlight of the evening, which started with the official business and finished with an Autism Awareness presentation by our Ambassadors, Robert Lamb and Alex Rowley, Delia's son, whom she first brought along to us two decades ago!

After standing down as chair, Delia said; “when I first joined the organisation my passion and drive was about giving people with a diagnosis a voice and to have their personal potential recognised and developed. Now Sycamore Trust has reached a point where people with autism and Learning Disabilities are given the opportunity to speak for themselves and to showcase their own talents.”

Before handing over the reins to new Chair of Trustees, Jo Baty, Mrs Rowley appealed for volunteers for the charity.  She concluded; “if anyone is considering volunteering in any capacity with Sycamore Trust, you have everything to gain and nothing to lose. I do not regret a single moment of time I have given to the organisation; in fact, each moment has actually been a gift to myself!”

Sycamore Trust CEO Chris Gillbanks presented Delia with flowers and life membership of the charity.  She said; “I can’t thank Delia enough for her contribution and friendship over the past 20 years.  She will be a hard act to follow!”
