The Place to visit!

New restaurant in Romford's Mercury Mall

There's a new destination for restaurant lovers in Romford.  Joe's Place opened on Friday in the Mercury Mall, and two of our young people from the SPACE employment project have roles at the restaurant.

The new restaurant is the brainchild of local entrepreneur Joe Sultana, who is also the man behind the Romford Walk of Fame, and he's got big plans for the new eaterie.  Joe's Place has a great location right next to Asda and will be serving a range of Maltese and Mediterranean dishes. Even though the restaurant has only just opened, there are plans in place to extend the dining area and Joe also has an innovative plan in place whereby filmgoers can book their cinema tickets through the restaurant and collect them while dining.

Two members of the backroom team were introduced to Joe by the Romford jobcentre, after their visit to a SPACE job club last month.  Jack Kelland will be working as a kitchen porter and Spencer Pace has a front of house role in the restaurant.  For both lads, it's their first jobs and they are both excited to be starting at Joe's Place.  Joe himself was really pleased with their progress.  He said; "They have already proved their worth.  Even after a week, they are already valuable members of the team."

Steve Dixon from the Sycamore Trust commented; "What an amazing opportunity for Jack and Spencer to take the first steps on the career ladder.  We're delighted for them both and we are pleased to see them doing so well.  We wish Joe and his staff every success."

The launch of Joe's Place was attended by a host of local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Havering, Cllr Dilip Patel,  Cllr Christine Vickery and the MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell.

The SPACE project is supported by the Glyn Hopkin Charitable Foundation CIO.
