The sky's the limit!
There are plenty of clever ways to raise money for charity and here at the Sycamore Trust UK we are always incredibly grateful when someone makes an effort to raise money on our behalf. Whether it's running a challenging distance, giving up something you love, or trying to lose weight , we are often amazed by the resourcefulness of our friends and supporters.
But one grateful family has come up with an idea that really does go that extra mile. Dawn McMaster from Barking brought her son along to the charity for some help in 2016 and now her uncle Ray is raising money by way of thanks – by jumping out of a plane!
Ray Robertson is hoping to raise £1,000 for the Sycamore Trust and he thinks that jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet is the best option. When asked if he’d be nervous, he played it down, saying “I don’t see it as dangerous!”

Ray’s great nephew Sofian came to us almost three years ago. His mother Dawn had become concerned at the rate of his development as she noticed that he wasn’t developing at the same rate as other children. He was nonverbal with a very short attention span and he was diagnosed with autism before his second birthday.
She explained that it was a difficult time for her and the family; “I didn't have a specific person to turn to and it was a confusing time with various doctors to deal with and many appointments. I felt very alone, and I wasn't sure of what to expect or how to move forward.”
But we were able to help when she brought Sofian along. They taught him to communicate with his family through a system of symbols and pictures and it proved to be a great success. Now he’s making steady progress and Dawn said; “I can’t thank the Sycamore Trust enough for the support they gave us.”
