Two new trustees!

We were delighted to announce the appointment of two new trustees at the virtual AGM in November. Christine Burke and Harsharan Landa were officially welcomed to our Board of Trustees at the recent AGM and both have already made a big contribution, having been involved throughout the year.

Harsharan is no stranger to us at Sycamore Trust as she brought her son along to our Way2Say project a few years ago. Harsharan is the charity Director of Maidie Create, teaching vulnerable people in the community arts and crafts therapy to help give them back their confidence through creativity. She also spoke at the launch of Speak With A Picture back in 2018.

Following her appointment, Harsharan said; “I proudly became involved with Sycamore Trust when my beautiful little boy Harvel was one and a half years old. Harvel has Autism and a sensory processing disorder and is my complete world.” We were able to support Harvel and Harsharan and as a result, she wanted to help us by way of thanks.

She continued; “Sycamore Trust became a lifeline for us, opening my heart and eyes to the wonderful world of Autism and all the different ways I could help my son communicate, through the parent training, to all the support and advice that has been given. When I was asked to become a Trustee I found it both an honour and a privilege and it was a way for me to give back to this incredible organisation who have provided so much help for me and my son.”

Christine-Koulla Burke is the Director of The Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities. The Foundation works with people with learning disabilities and families to focus on prevention and combating inequalities. Their vision is that people with learning disabilities continue to get better lives and their work contributes to this through the development of knowledge, the improvement of practice and the influence of policy.

Christine said; "The Sycamore Trust is creating valuable knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with Autism and learning disabilities. My hope is to support as best I can to ensure that Sycamore continues to contribute in the positive way it is doing. Thank you for inviting me to be a Trustee. Looking forward to working with you all."
